I got baptized Christian on Sunday.

Afterwards I got really dizzy and almost passed out.

My friend Mike on a whim checked my blood sugar. It was over 500.

I went to the emergency room and found out that I have diabetes.
I was going into Diabetic ketoacidosis.
Which is basically where the ketones in your blood raise so much that your organs go into shock.
They had to lower my blood sugar and keep my organs from failing.

They told me if I hadnt come in I would have died.

The past few days have been insulin, fluids, blood thinners. Potassium, in and out of consciousness, finger pricks, blood tests, cold showers etc.

But guess what? They got rid of the ketoacidosis (not to be confused with ketosis)

I now have to take medication a pill called metformin, and take better care of myself which im ok with.

I have to go tomorrow to my new pcp (the woman who treated me in the hospital) and get more blood tests done to make sure I stay out of ketoacidosis. That my blood sugar is lowering successfully and to get the second medication that I need which is Ozempic (its for diabetes even though people use it for weightloss) its going to be a weekly shot I have to give myself in the stomach.

My blood sugar is still extremely high but no longer danger level. Things like learning to drive (which I was doing well at) have been put on hold because I could potentially get dizzy or pass out until its fully under control.

I am missing alot of work so im stressed about my mortgage.
God has my back though. Thats for sure.

Sincerely,
Depressed and diabetic but showing improvement on both ends.
Sarah

Oh gosh that is a lot! I am glad you have a diagnosis and are on medication that should help now at least. Work will still be there when you are up for it but I totally understand about the stress with finances. I've been off work for medical situations a lot this year too. But definitely driving with the risk of something happening is dangerous, my cousin had a seizure and was not allowed to drive for a year or something after that to make sure he was all good and it wouldn't happen again (it was a seizure from illness, not a condition he has or anything like epilepsy or anything.)

I hope the Ozempic helps.

Yeah, I'm alright. Just glad that things weren't worse for him. Really freaked out his wife. I hope things improve for you with the diagnosis and the medication helps. I know that can't be an easy thing to have to deal with now. From having a friend that had diabetes. But now you know you can try keep it under control so that doesn't happen again, hopefully. That must have been really scary for you!

Congrats on the baptism! <3

Your diabetic experience must've been super scary. Are you doing better now with the meds?
